Elevation gain calculation

< 1 min read

BikeCompanion offers several methods to calculate elevation gain during your bike rides:

  1. GPS Altitude (Default)
  • Uses elevation data provided by your phone’s GPS
  • Available on all devices
  • Accuracy varies depending on conditions and phone model
  1. Barometric Altitude (PRO Version)
  • Uses your phone’s barometric sensor
  • Provides excellent real-time accuracy
  • Only available on devices equipped with a barometer
  • Can be enabled from: “More” menu → “User Preferences”
  • Requires PRO subscription
  1. Post-Activity Recalculation (PRO Version)
  • Recalculates elevation gain after your activity using precise topographic data
  • Data sources: IGN maps, SRTM (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission), etc.
  • Helps correct GPS inaccuracies and jumps
  • Recommended for more reliable statistics when phone doesn’t have a barometer
  • Can be enabled from: “More” menu → “User Preferences”
  • Requires PRO subscription

Post-activity recalculation can be particularly useful in areas where GPS signal is disturbed (dense urban areas, thick forests) or if your device isn’t equipped with a barometric sensor.
