iOS: indicators from the locked screen

1 min read

Thanks to Apple’s new Live Activity feature, the app now allows iOS users (version 16.1 and above) to display real-time data directly on their iPhone’s lock screen. No need to unlock your phone to track your progress!

You can save your journeys, consult your indicators and navigate in real time, all while saving battery power. Practical, isn’t it?”

Live Activities is activated by default when you update to iOS 16.1 or later.

It enables :

  • Display navigation instructions: stay on track without opening the app.
  • Battery optimization: Keeping the screen locked saves energy while accessing your essential metrics.
  • Display of your 4 favorite indicators (configurable)

The 4 indicators displayed when the screen is locked are in fact the first 4 indicators visible under the map when the phone is unlocked.

To customize them :

Press and hold (for a few seconds) the number 1/2/3 or 4 indicator (which appears under the card during recording) to change it.

Then, when the screen is locked, the indicators are displayed in this order:

Note 1: Recently, Apple imposed a limitation on real-time data refresh, restricting it to one indicator update every 15 seconds.

Note 2: Unfortunately, Android doesn’t allow you to have a live widget when the phone’s screen is locked.
