Difficulty breakdown: This 3rd category climb has a two-part profile. The first half (km 0.0 to 3.0) is very gentle (average gradient of 2.5%), followed by a tougher central section (km 3.0 to 5.0) with gradients between 5% and 7%. A short respite comes before a final 6% kicker to the finish. The difficulty lies in this change of rhythm rather than in a sustained gradient.
Pacing tips:
1. Start easy: Use the first 3 km, which are barely uphill, to settle into a steady rhythm without going too hard, so you reach the central section with plenty left in the tank.
2. Prepare for the heart of the climb: From km 2.5, get ready mentally and physically for the steepening (5-7% over 2 km). Ease off your pace if needed to avoid blowing up.
3. Progressive restart: After the respite at km 5.5, get out of the saddle gradually to attack the final 6% kicker (500 m) and hold your power all the way to the summit.
