Tips

Difficulty breakdown: This Category 3 climb has a progressive profile. The first half (0-5 km) is very gentle (average gradient of 2%), a warm-up for the legs. Things get noticeably harder after the 5 km mark, with a steeper section between 6 and 8 km (gradient of 4-5%), before a slightly easier finish (4%). The challenge is the change of pace.

Pacing tips:

1. Start easy: Resist the urge to attack the first 5 km, which are barely uphill, and save your legs.

2. Anticipate the change: Get ready mentally and physically for the ramp-up from the 6 km mark by shifting into an easier gear.

3. Steady rhythm: Aim to hold a steady power output on the steep part (6-10 km) rather than sprinting up the steepest pitches.

About the climbs to this summit

According to riders who have climbed it, the ascent to Przełęcz Płoszczyna is known for its very good quality tarmac, whether you come from Poland (Stronie Śląskie, Lądek Zdrój) or from the Czech Republic. Many describe it as a comfortable, approachable climb, a "relativně facile podjazd" for road riders, which lets you enjoy the scenery without fighting the road surface.

Being up there is marked by a feeling of calm and serenity. Riders mention the "zapachu lasu, ciszy" (the smell of the forest, the silence) and a place "sympatycznie, cisza spokój". Set in the middle of a landscape park, the pass is a crossroads of trails, with superb views of the Śnieżnik massif, especially in certain seasons when wildlife encounters add to the magic of the place.

The border crossing has its own little social hub. Riders report the chata Kladske Sedlo on the Czech side, a spot loved for refuelling with a "vynikajici jídlo" (excellent food) and a local beer, although some note that it can close unpredictably and that payment is often cash only. It makes for a well-earned break in a "příjemná rodinná atmosféra" (a pleasant family atmosphere).

For many, this climb is a quieter alternative to the more popular routes up the Śnieżnik, and sees far fewer riders. It also makes a great starting point for other summits such as the Rudawiec. However, some reports draw a distinction: while the Czech side's tarmac is "perfekcyjny", the Polish side can, in places, "leży piach" (be sandy), a realistic detail to plan for.
