Difficulty breakdown:
This HC climb has a very uneven profile. The first half (KM 0-8) is relatively gentle, with long stretches at 1-2%, which lets you find a rhythm. The gradient ramps up significantly in the second half, with a run of kilometres between 7% and 9%. The final section is brutal, with a kilometre at 20% (KM 14-15) just before the finish, making it the key moment of the climb.
How to manage your effort:
1. Pacing the first part: Use the early kilometres at low gradient to warm up and settle into a steady rhythm without burning matches.
2. Prepare for the final wall: Save something for the 20% kilometre. Hit it in an easy gear and keep the effort controlled to avoid blowing up.
3. Recover on the flatter sections: The short stretches of easier gradient (like around KM 6-7) are your chance to ease off the pedals briefly and get your breath back.
